Decent weather this week, with a mix of sun and clouds throughout, and average to light winds strengthening steadily over the last two days. Not a whole lot of permit around this week, but some were seen and a few were caught, including a monster 25 pounder by WorldCast client Mike M. The relative scarcity of permit right now we think is due to the large amount of fresh water from our recent slugs of rain flushing out of the back of the bays, limiting fishable areas and dispersing fish from their usual feeding grounds. At Casa Blanca the ‘Dock Docs’ worked their magic nightly on the pier and had many adventures, including a huge (easily 25+lbs) permit which was attacked by a shark after forty five minutes on the line, leaving them to reel in the front half, and some very cool tarpon and large jacks. At Casa Redonda, Patrick C and Cassie B took beach walks with rods in hand and had a blast with tarpon, snook, jacks and barracuda, all found cruising the weed line off the beach, one silver lining in the sargasso bloom we’ve been dealing with. Backcountry fishing still a little off in Santa Rosa but on the improve.
