Casa and Playa Blanca Lodges Fishing Report Feb. 21-28

Weather this week was a mixed bag, with a little bit of everything. Great groups at both lodges. Those driven to hunt for permit were successful for the most part, with a total of 14 to hand and three grand slams. While some tarpon and snook were caught this week,  fishing for those species was a little tough once again with few fish seen in the likely spots and of those not a lot of aggression. When it does turn on, it’s going to be gangbusters. Bonefish were plentiful as always but the larger fish were not around in numbers, we have seen them exhibiting spawning behavior recently and are coming up on the full moon, a possible explanation. It was a good week for the beginner anglers, with lots of firsts, including bonefish, tarpon, snook and permit. There’s nothing quite like beginner’s luck.
