Casa and Playa Blanca said goodbye to January last week and welcomed the beginning of February. The weather started out marginal with winds generating from the North/Northeast. The sun refused to shine and by Tuesday the front was a full-fledged, heavy windstorm. The middle of the week produced some hope with the wind shifting and the sun began to emerge. Day 4 brought with it good sunshine the Anglers enjoyed two good days of conditions at the end of the week. At Casa Blanca good friends of the Island Junior, Diane, and Doc Thompson headed to the lodge after spending their first week at Playa. The threesome was joined by long time Casa Angler “Permit” Joe Dudra. The four friends had Permit on the mind but found themselves taking to the backcountry in search of Tarpon and big bones due to the weather, the week proceeded Junior took top dog honors releasing 2 Ascension Bay Permit when the sun poked out. Joe, Diane and Doc had a handful of shots at the Palometa but refusals were more abundant than hook ups. All in all it was a tough week to target Permit but the crew kept the attitudes alive and enjoyed the week.

Down at Playa the lodge welcomed the return of the 2 Salt travel company from Steamboat, CO as well as an energetic crew from Denver. The Denver boys (T Bro, Bear, Sea Lion, Box Car Willy, Charles and Scott) spent the first few days in and out of the Tarpon lagoon with marginal success and as a whole everybody spent the first few days waiting for better conditions. Mike Gould of 2Salt did release a Permit on his first day but the fishing got much better at the end of the week. Steve managed to release his first Permit ever early in the week as well. T bro made the best of his shots with a Permit release and the rest of the Denver gang reported many shots.  2Salt finished the week with many bones and Mike Poper sticking a Permit. The tough week came to a close with John from Lyons, CO. Whipping a monster Cuda !!
