Casa and Playa Blanca Lodges Fishing Report Oct. 17-24, 2015

A challenging weather week, with torrential downpours and fierce winds to start followed by periodic squalls and angry skies that got progressively less angry as the week waned. Quite a few rain delays and early returns, but anglers and guides made the most of it, fishing in protected waters where possible for tarpon and snook, and taking advantage of the lulls to hit the flats for permit and bones. Snook fishing continues to be strong in Ascension Bay, with fish out cruising on the flats in certain areas as well as their typical haunts in the mangroves. At Playa Blanca we had the pleasure of hosting the J Kozak Invitational Permit Tournament, and despite the weather the numbers were strong, with 14 fish in all for the event. Angler Brad E and guide Jorge won both the overall and the big fish category with a 35 pound beast.
