We experienced another mixed bag of weather conditions this week, with average to strong winds and mixed light. It was another week too of more permit seen in one place than ever before for some boats, and the exact opposite experience for others, a good indication of spawn or pre spawn behavior in effect. Finding the fish wasn’t synonymous with catching however, schools were tough to get close to and tougher to fool into eating. We managed a handful of fish for the week’s tally but our casting and catching ratio is still off despite some very skilled anglers on deck. The spawning behavior seems to have been strung out over a more prolonged period than last year; this same week last year was one of the highest catch rates on record. Fishing for all other species was consistent, and our average catch sized is still trending up, a great sign for the health of the fishery.
