The week of February 15- February 22 brought long time client Kevin Smith and friends to Casa Blanca lodge for their annual fishing tournament. Daily tallies were kept for bonefish, snook, tarpon, and permit. While the permit numbers were quite bleak this week with the constant high winds, bonefish numbers continue to be good. In fact, new saltwater angler Noah managed around 30 bonefish one day while fishing with Aaron. Safe to say that’s a pretty solid day of bonefishing!
Other highlights from the week include Chris winning the biggest snook and biggest tarpon award and Aaron winning both the guide of the week award and the annual casting competition on the dock Friday night. Anglers who targeted permit got plenty of shots this week, but no one was able to seal the deal. The wind has been hitting us hard from all directions for 6 weeks now and we are ready for some good permit weather! We had one day of refuge on Sunday, but the wind is back in action again now. The weather forecasts(only so-so) are calling for calmer conditions tomorrow, so we all have our fingers crossed at Casa Blanca.
At Playa Blanca we had our second week with Stonefly Inn from Twin Bridges, MT. The group worked hard all week looking for permit with mixed success. The conditions weren’t great until Friday where 5 anglers found permit. This crew has a good time regardless, we look forward to seeing them next year!
