At Playa we welcomed a new group of 14 anglers from Homewaters in State College, PA. The weather was perfect and we enjoyed light winds and good sunshine. The group managed to catch bonefish, tarpon, permit and snook throughout the week. 6 anglers ticked the box for their first permit ever and enjoyed a scorpion as tradition goes. Willy from Baltimore landed a 20lb pound permit on the final day to cap off his week with five permit. Tom new to saltwater managed to catch permit, tarpon and bonefish on his first trip. We look forward to seeing this crew again next year!

This week at Casa Blanca finally brought the nice fishing conditions we’ve been looking for since the New Year. The first 3 days were about as ideal conditions for fishing in Ascension Bay as it gets. We saw very calm winds and plentiful sunshine each day. Anglers had ample opportunities for permit, snook, tarpon, and bonefish this week. The permit acted as permit always do, being picky and spooky with the calm conditions. However, anglers managed to land a few through the week along with several snook and tarpon. Mid week, anglers enjoyed 2 separate schools of bonefish in the evenings after their fishing day that were cruising around the dock. Each school I estimate had at least 200 fish in it. The shallow ocean floor around the dock was literally black for 2 days from how many bonefish were cruising around. As usual, they disappeared after a couple of days but it was a cool sight to see. We had a fun week this week with long-time Casa and Playa guest Doc, Junior, and Diane along with a new group of anglers from Britain. Everyone had ample shots at permit through the week, with laughs in the evening about things that went wrong in the process. When permit fishing, anything that can go wrong, will go wrong, so bit of luck is needed for all the pieces to fall into order and seal the deal. We had fun this week and enjoyed the nice weather. We are now on the tail end of the good weather with high winds expected to come back tomorrow. A strong North wind came in Saturday night, making some of the closer areas of the bay cloudy. These spots should clear up through the day today. Until next week
